Mayor Michael O'Neill previously served as an Amityville Village Trustee for six years and as an appointed member of the Village's Planning Board. An active community volunteer, he has been a member of the Amityville Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 20 years serving as Captain of the Fire Police Company and Co- Chair of the Department’s September 11th Memorial Committee. He is also a Distinguished Past President of The Kiwanis Club of Amityville and has been a coach for many youth programs in the village.
Michael is a member of the Suffolk County Village Officials Association, the New York Conference of Mayors, and Bay Village Civic Association. In 2022, he was appointed by Suffolk County Legislator Jason Richberg to the Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization Committee. As a member of the Local Planning Committee for the NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative, he was instrumental in recommending projects for the Village’s $10 million NYS DRI grant the Village received in 2023.
Michael enjoyed a 30-year career working for Cablevision, retiring as Corporate Director of Local Programming and Internal Video Communications. Currently he is the Educational Broadband Systems Director for the Archdiocese of New York.
Born and raised in Amityville, Michael is a graduate of the Amityville schools and earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). He and his wife live in Amityville and are proud parents of three daughters.
